More tidbits from the job search

Apparently the Lamborghini guy isn't the only crazy running freelance job ads. This one blows my mind:

Book and Business plan editor

I am in need of someone with experience to edit my book. And also some other things for my business.

No awards for thoroughness, but still, nothing disturbing. That is, until you check out the pay:

Compensation: $15-$20 for book, and $300 for other projects

Fifteen to twenty dollars. To edit an entire book.

I don't even know where to start.

I noticed this one this morning too (since my potential famine week is looking pretty much like a given right now) and couldn't believe my eyes. I bet he'll get a few takers though.

Do you really think so? I was thinking this was too low even for the bottom-feeder writers. I guess some might take it on the merits of the other work, though, if it's a package deal.

But still. Editing an entire book for $15 is like Chinese or Latino laborers working in one of Wal*Mart's sweat shops overseas. All that's missing is for the guy to beat the writer with the manuscript if he doesn't like the work.

One word: insanity!

I saw another one. I can't remember where. It went on and on. At the end, they said, "There will be no pay."

Craziness...

Michele,

That reminds me of a pattern I've noticed: Sometimes it seems like the less they're offering, the more they expect for it.

Yep, "insanity" about says it all!

Where to start? How about wiping the tears from your eyes and letting your laughter subside before you write back and quote him the "get real" price? :))

What a completely clueless person.
