A day or two after making my announcement last week that I was ready to get back to freelancing, I got busy again and didn't get anything done for days. I hate the feeling that things are piling up while you don't have time to take care of anything, so as soon as I was able I got to work and started ticking things off of my to-do list.
That "as soon as I was able" just happened to be this evening and on late into the night.
Those who have known me or followed my blog for a long time know that I am a night owl. I used to work every night until 3 or 4am. I got out of the habit because I was sleeping too late, rendering much of my day useless, but I've always loved working late at night when my productivity is at its peak and there isn't (usually) anyone awake to disturb me.
Lately I've been inching toward the late bedtimes again, and since I started updating my blogs more regularly -- and especially since I started poking my nose out into the big wide world and marketing myself again -- I've been working late three or four nights a week. I've been spending that time browsing freelance job boards again, feeling out the current climate, and also working on my own projects -- primarily updating my blogs, but also working on my fiction when I am able to. So far it's just the right amount of late-night work to increase my productivity and keep me motivated.
Already my blogs are showing more traffic -- and, even more importantly, more ad revenue coming through. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I continue to see good things coming of my increased productivity!
