I haven't posted in a few weeks, mostly because I've been pretty busy. Once taxes were accomplished, I had my birthday, plus some more fallout from the divorce to deal with. And on top of it all, I got really sick with a horrible cold that lasted for about two weeks. I didn't work much -- on anything -- during that time.
But on to better and geekier things! As all good geeks know, May 4th is Star Wars Day. Because, you know, "May the 4th be with you." Punnery at its finest!
When I think back on it, Star Wars was probably my first introduction into sci-fi and fantasy, which has since become a lifelong -- and growing -- interest. I remember getting a VCR and the boxed set of Star Wars on VHS when I was six and my sister was three. I'm pretty sure we sat right down on Christmas morning and watched it. I can't even remember how many times I've seen Star Wars, but I know that we were watching it often enough when my dad came home from work that he joked with us and claimed that if we watched it too often, Luke would get tired and not be able to keep winning.
Fast forward 30 years and I'm now a certified sci-fi/fantasy geek. A great deal of what I read and watch falls into those two genres, and most of the fiction I write does too.
What about you? Do you celebrate Star Wars Day? Do you consider yourself in touch with geek culture? My sense of it is that a lot of writers lean that way.
