I don't know what it is about today --if I'm rebounding from my busy summer so far, or if it's because I know I'm on vacation, or both -- but today I woke up without my motivation.
I had planned to spend today on client work, novel writing, and some cleaning and other projects around the house. When I woke up, however, I felt so blah that I ended up just turning on the TV for a little bit (something I rarely do). After a couple hours (!), I made myself turn it off and work on some of my client work.
Is it possible that as a nanny, I've gotten so used to being constantly out and about that being home so much saps my motivation? Today I certainly feel that it's possible. It makes me wonder how difficult of a transition it will be for me if I ever go back to freelancing full-time (which I would like to eventually).
I think today's solution will be to get out of the house for a bit, maybe to go to a coffee shop and get some writing done there. I have some errands to run as well, and I am hoping that getting moving will help to energize me. I've also often found that a change of scenery can do a lot to help get the words flowing when I'm struggling with concentration. Sometimes the quietness of home can be even more distracting to me than the background noise of a coffee shop.
What about you? What do you do to revive your motivation when it fails you?
